When you reach the first set of spinning walls, go towards.
You will see a lake. Dump bombs into the lake, then flying
over the flag - with an "S".

Skip the Fortress
Hit pause, just before you reach to the Fortress part of the game.
Resume the game right after that. Then, you will be able to just
move right past it, without fighting the Fortress.
