Hidden modes
Choose the arrange (append) or arcade mode at the title screen.
Push Up or Select at the difficulty selection screen to bring up
the "Secret Mode" menu. After that, enter any of the following
cheat codes:

Unlock 2x mode
Press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right.

Unlock Mirror mode
Press Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right.

Unlock Maniac mode
Press Left, Left, Right, Right, Left, Left, Right, Right.

Unlock Another mode
Press Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Up, Down, Down.

Unlock secret characters
Choose the arrange (append) or arcade mode at the title screen.
Hold Left and push Start for a secret set of characters.
Hold Right and push Start to get access to the a second
set of characters. Each mode has its own set of secret
characters.
