Cheat: Mods for Halo, Not CE.
NOTE: It is always a good idea to back up your files, if you make mistakes you
can reinstall.
You will need HaloMapTools V3
Once that is extracted and installed forget about it (close it out or something) and
go to 'My Computer' the locate where you installed halo somewhere in the C drive
(most likely 'Prog Files' then 'Microsoft Games' then 'Halo'). Once you open up the
file 'Halo' (not CE) you will see some other files such as "shaders" and "maps" and
some stuff, but the one you want is the one named 'maps'. Copy that entire folder
(all the maps) and paste them in a new file titled 'backups' and then minimize that
so you can see your desktop. (this will be your backup map folder). OK now that
that’s done we can move on to modding...
Now open up HMT3 and open the folder 'HMT.v3.ReleaseCandidate' (if u cant find
that it the 2nd one down) and then click on HMT3's icon (it might be books or a
window and dont worry if a notice pops up) and HMT3 will open. Now click file and
open then again locate your maps folder (not your backups! the originals)(it may
be easier just to insert halo and click on the cd drive to locate the maps) and open
a map you would like to mod (cant mod bitmaps.map). Once selected a lot of word
closed folders will come up on the left. If you want to make things happen such as
a pistol shooting rockets go to the one named Projectiles (don’t worry about big
words just click on +/-) and click on the + to its left. Now a lot of things should
have opened and things such as
vehicles\banshee\banshee bolt
weapons\assault rifle\bullet
should have come up. Those are the projectiles for each weapon. So lets say you
want a needler to shoot pistol... well all you basically need to do is switch the
projectiles huh... exactly but there are 2 ways to do this. I find the easiest way is
to copy and paste the META (numbers) in the top left. So to make the needler
shoot pistol you would copy the pistols META and paste it into the needlers META
then click save and your done. And before you try out your mod on halo you need
to make sure that you press close map file at the bottom otherwise halo will
freeze. But wait there is a second way: you can click on swap next to the
projectiles META and then choose the projectile you want it to shoot then again
press save and close the map file.
Also in the TAG EDITOR on the left when you select a projectile you are able to
change the speed, arch, and alot of things as well as the projectiles life span. So
you can make plasma shoot as fast a bullet or faster or slower.
